FTP client settings

How do I connect via ftp using manual settings? I tried connecting to my slot using port 21, but it doesn't seem to work. I may be doing something wrong in my client setup. The instructions only say how to set up a FileZilla client using the provided config. I don't have a FileZilla client available on my client device (Android).
